The Cup Sharp

Step up, step up! Under the striped awning of his fairground booth, Varek Quickhand has three leather cups, one little golden ball and a smile that is far too calm.

Set your stake and place your bets. Varek shows you the ball, hides it under the middle cup and starts to shuffle: slowly at first, then faster, and faster still the more you bet. Keep your eye on it. When the cups stop, pick one. Find the ball and he pays you nearly double; pick an empty cup and he keeps your coins, with a grin.

• Slow shuffle: next to Play again, for a quarter of your stake
