Operation Crib

It's 23:47. The baby is in your arms, the crib is three steps away, and you are very, very tired.

Rock it with both hands, its head a touch higher than its feet, until it's out cold. Carry it to the crib, lower it slow and level, keep a hand on its chest and slide your hands out from under it. Then back out of the room without stepping on a toy, and close the door without a single creak.

Sounds easy. It isn't. The night has plans of its own: motorbikes in the street, a neighbour with a drill, a phone that won't stop ringing, a dummy that pops out in the dark, a room that gets too hot or too cold. Little warnings tell you what's coming and where. And the moment the baby cries, it's all over.

• Keyboard: W / S raise and lower the arm under the head, ↑ / ↓ the arm under the feet (rock by moving them in turn); D walk forward, A step back, Shift look behind you; hold Space to shush
• L the lamp, R the window, M the phone, P the dummy, F swat, C pick the baby up again · Enter starts, Esc gives up the night
• Mouse: click things in the room (the lamp, the window, the phone, the dummy…)
• Touch: a stick for each arm, Back / Forward and Look back, Shhh in the middle; tap things in the room
• Gamepad: sticks for the arms, LB / RB walk, LT look behind, A shush, B the free hand, X window, Y phone
